☆ Jasmin Paris Becomes First Woman to Complete Extreme Barkley Race

The runner Jasmin Paris became on Friday the first woman to complete the Barkley Marathons, an extreme footrace that requires participants in rural Tennessee to navigate 100 miles of rugged terrain in no more than 60 hours. Paris, 40, of Midlothian, Scotland, finished the race with one minute and 39 seconds to spare, making her one of only 20 people to complete the Barkley since it was extended to 100 miles in 1989. She was one of five to finish this year, out of 40 entrants. At the end of the run, Paris sank to the ground in front of a yellow gate that marks the start and finish of the event, which consists of five roughly 20-mile laps. “The final minutes were so intense, after all that effort it came down to a sprint uphill, with every fiber of my body screaming at me to stop,” Paris said in an email.

While Hollywood has ground to a halt due to parallel writers’ and actors’ strikes, there’s a US-based series that is being allowed to continue to production. “The Chosen,” a faith-based series about the life of Jesus, “allows us to see Him through the eyes of those who knew Him,” according to the series. Season 4 is entirely independent and 100% funded by donations,” the production stated in another tweet. During the strikes, writers and actors are prohibited from working and promoting their projects produced under contract with major studios. While UK filmed shows may be allowed to continue production during the strike, seasons of “The Chosen” have been filmed in Utah and Texas and reportedly have found a permanent production home in Midlothian, Texas.

Authorities in Virginia violated the Constitution when they used Google location data to find people who were near the scene of a 2019 bank robbery, a federal judge ruled last week. The evidence provided by a geofence warrant alone is not enough to charge someone with a crime, police say. The judge stressed that her ruling was not meant to say whether geofence warrants should ever be used. In the end, the judge wrote, the future of geofence warrants should be taken up by lawmakers. She cited a bill in New York that seeks to ban the use of geofence warrants.
